Oasis of Time

The woman sighed. "He doesn't care for her though," she replied. "He wants little to do with her. And once he gets something like that in his mind, it's near impossible to deter him from that way of thinking."

"So you're saying he won't stop chasing after me until I go back to my own time?" Amelia asked, going slightly pale.

"Most likely," the woman replied. "Are you alright? You do not look well."

"I'm fi-" Amelia started saying but fainted.

The woman gasped and managed to catch her before Amelia hit the ground. She sighed and with the help of a passer-by managed to get her back to the palace and to her room. The man left and the maid sighed, lightly dabbing the female's forehead with a wet cloth and watching her with concern in her eyes.

"mmmm" Amelia groaned, scrunching her eyes together as she had a bad dream.

A short while later, Tutankhamun joined the maid, sitting beside Amelia on the bed. He nodded to the maid and the woman bowed slightly, getting up and leaving the two of them. The Pharaoh sighed, watching her and lightly playing his fingers through her hair, dabbing at her forehead.

"mother..." Amelia whispered, remembering how her mother died of disease when she was a little girl.

Tutankhamun frowned faintly and gently gripped her shoulder. "Amelia," he said softly. "Amelia, wake up."

Amelia woke up, tears running down her cheeks.."Pharaoh.?"

Tutankhamun smiled faintly at her and lightly tucked some of her hair behind her ear. "Hey," he said softly, watching her with concern. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah I'm fine...i probably just caught a cold because of the change in environment" Amelia said, looking up at him.

The Pharaoh sighed, not looking convinced. "I'd like you to take it easy from now on, alright?" he asked softly, lightly caressing her cheek.

"In a week or so I'll be fine, till then I'll take it easy...did the Priests say anything?" Amelia asked, leaning into his caress.

"They're just throwing ideas around at the moment," Tutankhamun sighed. "A lot of them are far fetched."

"Oh...maybe it has something to do with the oasis..." Amelia pondered.

Tutankhamun nodded. "I'll bring it up," he replied.

"Alright" Amelia said, the room going silent.

Tutankhamun sighed, watching her quietly. He leaned forward and lightly kissed her forehead. "I really care for you, you know," he whispered to her.

"I know...but it baffles me as to why you do" Amelia whispered, looking away.

"Why?" Tutankhamun asked softly. "Why does it baffle you so?" He lightly played his fingers through her hair, watching her quietly and wishing he could gaze into her eyes.

"Because there is no reason for you to care about me. Remember? I could just be a spy" Amelia said, remembering when they'd first met.

The Pharaoh chuckled. "I suppose, but even spies don't make up such wild stories about their heritage," he said. "I mean, where is this New York, you spoke of? And that device you had. I find it hard to actually believe that you are indeed a spy."

"New York is in the United States of America, across the sea. The world is much bigger than you think it is Pharaoh" Amelia said with a soft smile.
